Tucked in the town of Kirinyaga, Kainamui is one of two washing stations run by the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society. Here, smallholder farmers, each tending just a couple hundred trees on tiny plots, deliver their ripe cherries for careful handling. It's this community-driven setup that often edges out big estates in quality, blending lots from hundreds of growers to create something special.

Cherries get pulped right after picking, then fermented in water to break down the sticky fruit layer before a thorough wash and slow drying on raised beds under the sun to bring out those clean, vibrant flavours.

This peaberry selection from Kainamui packs an impressive punch, striking that perfect harmony between bold sweetness and lively acidity that Kenyan coffees are famous for. We take it to a light roast, easing in just past the first crack to let the fruity brightness shine through – berry and melon vibes with a crisp edge and deep sweetness.
We are roasting this coffee for filter but if you consider yourself a skilled barista, you’ll be able to pull some beautiful expressive espressos with it as well!
